JHR Ryerson strives to increase awareness surrounding not only human rights abuses, but also triumphs. Throughout the 2009-2010 year JHR Ryerson will host events and partner with other campus groups to help educate the Ryerson community and create a globally knowledgable and aware campus.

Alexandra MacAulay Abdelwahab – President
Alex is in her third year of journalism and plans to pursue a career in broadcast and one day become a famous foreign correspondent. This summer she interned for rabble.ca and Verge Magazine and has written for the Eyeopener and the Ryerson Free Press and reported for RUtv News. She has been working with JHR for the past two years and was VP Events last year.
Sachin Seth – Vice-President
Sachin is a third-year Ryerson journalism student working toward a career in broadcast journalism. He’s been a lifelong advocate for human rights and social justice, and hopes to one day positively impact the rights of children on a global scale. He’s written for the Toronto Star, done commentary for the CBC and is currently the world news reporter for Boston-based Blast Magazine.
Leah Wong – VP Administration
Leah is in her second year of journalism, she plans on pursuing a career in either magazine or online in the future. She recently interned with Global News Online, working on their Remembrance Day micro-site. She’s a regular blogger with College Candy and writes a column for Shi Studio. This is her third year working with JHR.
Mai Nguyen – VP Events
Mai is a fourth-year magazine journalism student. As one of the coeditors-in-chief at McClung’s, a feminist magazine on campus, Mai is passionate about women’s issues, multiculturalism, human rights and nonviolence. She believes advocacy journalism is one of the best ways to heal the world.
Kaleigh Ambrose – Student Life Coordinator
Kaleigh is in her second year of journalism and hopes to pursue a career in broadcast journalism. She is currently interning at KMI Publishing and Events, writing for four of the company’s magazines, has written for the Eyeopener, FutuRéale magazine and is actively involved in Ryerson’s RUtv News. This is her second year as part of JHR, and first as an executive. She has been a lifelong supporter of human rights and hopes to spread the word about the various injustices around the world through JHR.
